Samantha Cook

Director

Plymouth-born Samantha is a specialist family lawyer and her particular areas of expertise include divorce, finances, armed forces pensions, separation agreements, prenuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.

Sam is accredited by the Solicitors’ Family Law Association (Resolution) as a Family Law Specialist and is a qualified Collaborative Lawyer.

Hello! My name is Sam. I am a solicitor and a director at C&C Family Law. I co-founded the practice with Celia in 2007, having specialised in family law since 2000.

I decided to specialise in family law because it is the most exciting kind of law – I can really make a difference in people’s lives. It is a wonderful feeling when I’ve helped someone go from the depths of despair and low self-esteem to a self-confident, independent person with a secure future.

There are no winners or losers in a divorce, and the best a good family lawyer can hope to do is to reduce the conflict and tension in the family, so that the parties can co-parent after the divorce is finalised and the lawyers have walked away. My aim is to help clients to achieve a practical, cost effective resolution which avoids litigation where possible, and enables them to move on with their lives.

I do my best to make my clients feel at ease when they are going through difficult and stressful times. Approachable and plain speaking, I listen to my clients’ objectives and ensure that they benefit from clear, concise, advice and guidance.

I am an experienced collaborative lawyer. I am committed to helping clients resolve their disputes wherever possible without the need for litigation, but when this is not possible, I am a capable, no-nonsense litigator, committed to achieving the best outcome for my clients.
I deal with all work relating to the breakdown of relationships, marriages and civil partnerships. Many of my financial cases involve Armed Forces and other pensions. I also draft prenuptial and cohabitation agreements. I act for parents in disputes about the arrangements for their children, and also for grandparents.

My interests include weightlifting, ballroom and Latin dancing, stand up paddleboarding and walking.

Celia Charlton

Director

Celia was born in Plymouth and qualified as a solicitor in 1994. A specialist family lawyer Celia’s particular areas of expertise include divorce, finances, separation agreements, private law children matters, prenuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.

Celia is accredited by the Solicitors’ Family Law Association (Resolution) as a Family Law Specialist.

Every family is unique and when people go through changes in relationships they require not only tactical, specialised knowledge and advice, but also a personal and compassionate approach.

When we established C & C Family Law, Sam and I recognised that family law is highly specialised which does not fit neatly with the corporate, business profile offered by larger more general legal practices.

As a result, we developed a bespoke service which is small enough to focus on providing a dedicated, top quality specialist service to individuals as they go through some of the most challenging times many of us face.

My interests include family, friends, film and music.

Paula Elliott

Receptionist

Paula works right at the hub of the business and, as our receptionist, is the first point of contact for enquiries. Born in Plymouth, she is a keen motorcyclist and enjoys spending time with her family.

‘As a mum and grandma myself, I understand the impact that family changes can have. I enjoy my job, especially providing a friendly welcome and helping people through what can otherwise be a difficult process.”
